MEDIA ADVISORY:  ORED Files Lawsuit in Cleveland County District Court to Halt Norman’s Rock Creek Entertainment District Project

NORMAN, OK --- On June 23, at 11:30 ORED (Oklahomans for Responsible Economic Development) and forty-seven other plaintiffs filed a petition seeking declaratory, injunctive, and mandamus relief against the City of Norman, the Norman Tax Increment Finance Authority, the Cleveland County Recreational and Entertainment Facilities Authority, and UNP North, LLC.

Plaintiffs assert five five causes of action including Local Development Act violations and Open Meetings Act violation arising out of the defendants’ unlawful and invalid acts, omissions, and attempt to enact and move forward with a taxpayer subsidized, and unpopular, and divisive Project know as the Rock Creek Entertainment District.

These assertions include violation of Oklahoma’s constitutional restrictions for TIF incentives for enterprise areas. Failure to comply with local development act mandates. And willful, unlawful, and invalid actions at special meeting and public hearing.
